# Introduction

The goal of this document is to provide information beyond what is in Abigail Shrier's novel, Irreversible Damage. This is not about proving the novel wrong, but rather giving addition perspectives in hopes that they help better inform a discussion around how to best support children. If our collective goal is about the general wellbeing of children, then additional perspectives help inform our decisions and ensure what we are doing *is* best given the circumstances of each child.

This document is structured and divided as topics mentioned by those in support of the novel. Each topic will have information regarding the author's viewpoint as well as other people giving their opinions about the topic too. By no means will this be a definitive source of information, but it's goal is to help parents make informed decisions.

*Admission of bias:* In the construction of this, I tried to create a well-rounded document supporting diverse perspectives. And while I do not agree with Shrier's novel, I can appreciate her audience who have set time out to learn about a topic impacting their child, family, or community.

Note: This intervention is the culmination of a larger research paper which is [linked here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ICmUH720HaMrD_oO-7PPObQa1DP_Bm6K-k_x05wSfm0/edit?usp=sharing). The information was synthesized into a 1-paged brief found [here](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LOaMSMHvRbtbmo_2cCq9Uo3PY8DTnWr8/view?usp=drive_link).
